Depressing news that Mike Starr, former bassist with Alice In Chains, was found dead at his home yesterday. His death follows that of former singer Layne Staley 9 years ago. Starr was one of the original members of Alice In Chains, playing bass on most notably 1992’s Dirt. The album contained Would? (also featuring on the Singles soundtrack) which started with a distinctive bass intro courtesy of Starr.
Unfortunately he had a heroin problem, and it is thought that this led to him leaving the band the following year. Subsequently he played in short-lived band Sun Red Sun, but has not been prominent in music for many years.
